Industrial Manufacturing has emerged as one of the high growth sectors in Africa in recent years. The African Union and its member states recently at the AU Heads of State and Government in Niamey (July 2019) launched its ambitious ‘Made-In-Africa’ program to position Africa on the world map as a manufacturing hub, to develop its own technology, market structures and approaches within the context of an effective Industrial Development Strategy (IDS) for Africa. The launches program is to give global recognition to the African economy. Government of Africa is also opening up the continent’s economy and attracting larger investments – FDIs. These investments are largely aimed at improving manufacturing infrastructure and setting up various industrial hubs in Africa.
Africa is expected to become the second largest manufacturing continent after Asia in the world by the end of year 2040. To leverage on this aspiration, African government aims to achieve 35 per cent GDP share and 200 million new jobs in key industry sectors in the next two decades. And so this sector is going to be one of the Key focus sectors for Africa’s growth ambition and aimed to create millions of jobs in coming years.
